This route is perhaps, one of the most popular of the 6. It earned the nickname ”Coca-Cola route” from its reputation as the most comfortable and cheapest route.
It is considered to be an easy climb because of its steady slope that makes for a pretty easy trekking path. This, however, is a misconception as the Marangu route is difficult to climb as can be seen from its low climbing success rate. This is hugely as a result of the lack of time for acclimatization.
You can climb to an altitude difference of about 1000m in the day and still have to complete another 1200m at night leaving you with little or no time for acclimatization.
Also, the ascent and descent from the mountain are on the same route making for a most un-pleasurable climbing experience.
Many inexperienced climbers choose this route because of its reputation and the fact that it only takes 5 days to complete (which it should if you do make it to the top)
